Brookstone on the Scene
Brookstone Emergency Services' Employees Participate in Mock Bird Flu Vaccination Drill
May 1-7, 2006 - When listening to the news these days, it is hard to avoid wind of a potential bird flu outbreak. As a precaution, the California Department of Health issued a mock disaster preparedness training at their facility in Rancho Cordova, CA. to simulate such a breakout. Tom Walton and Tylor Palmer, Brookstone Emergency Services' employees, played an integral part in the mock training and worked simultaneously with volunteers, medical response teams, casualty assistance teams, logistical and office personnel, and other personnel, and equipment, that would assist in event of an emergency operation, such as a bird flu outbreak.
Tom and Tylor's participation in the training began when they moved a couple of our box trucks to the Rancho Cordova training site. At the training site, they were instructed to load mock supplies on the Brookstone trucks, and proceed on to the staging base camp operations at Moffett Field in Mountainville, CA. At the base camp, there was a whirlwind of activity as disaster assistance teams simulated an emergency situation and completed inventory, and repackaged and reloaded supplies onto Brookstone trucks for shipments to various outlying locations in Santa Rosa, Fremont, Buchanan Airport, South Lake Tahoe and Yreka. Tom and Tylor arrived at each location on schedule. At the outlying locations, the staff again took inventory, repackaged, and reloaded the supplies, as they would in a live emergency, and Tom and Tylor drove the supplies back to Moffett Field.
