Mr. Nelson began his career as a corporate accountant, proceeding into management of commercial and multi-tenant industrial parks located in four states. He managed on-site projects and personnel; planned and developed new projects and implemented marketing programs for new and existing projects.
From 1978 - 1991, Mr. Nelson founded, owned and operated a real estate development company in southern California for the purpose of residential and commercial development projects. He completed the construction of over 800 homes and 1,000,000 square feet of industrial and retail buildings in joint ventures with both private and institutional investors. He holds current California General Contractors Licenses.
In 1991, Mr. Nelson formed and owned a general contracting company, Brookstone Construction Company, specializing in commercial construction with a focus on retail tenant improvements. Clients included Guess, Vans Shoes, Nike, Mills Corporation and numerous other retailers. Construction progressed nationally with contractor's licenses in thirty eight states.
In 1992, Mr. Nelson formed Brookstone Telecom, Inc., in order to construct wireless infrastructure and to provide construction services to the Telecom Communications Industry. Clients included AT&T, Cingular, Sprint, Nextel and T-Mobile. The footprint for this work was nationwide with offices in San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas and Boston, with annual sales of $48M in 2002. The company was sold to Dielectric, a subsidiary of SPX (a Fortune 500 Company located in North Carolina) in February of 2003. Mr. Nelson repurchased Brookstone Telecom from SPX in February of 2005. Brookstone Telecom currently has approximately 100 employees and provides quality service to the Wireless Communication Industry. These services include construction of cell sites, lines, antenna installation and maintenance, as well as various testing services.
In 1999, Mr. Nelson founded Brookstone Equipment & Services, an equipment rental company with primary interest in serving the Telecom Industry with aerial boom lifts and generators. Equipment inventory was expanded towards serving the emergency industry.
The Brookstone Emergency Services Division was founded to provide emergency base camp services to the Fire Fighting Industry. Clients include the California Department of Forestry (CDF), the United States Forest Service (USFF), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the United States Army and various other state and local entities. Brookstone Equipment & Services was sold to Sunbelt Rentals, a major public equipment rental company in August, 2005. The Emergency Services Division was retained and continues to offer base camp and disaster preparedness services to the above listed clients, and state and local agencies.
